Tristan Owen is a Montana based director and cinematographer
Colorado native, Tristan Owen, began his journey in film by photographing the Colorado vistas with his three brothers throughout his childhood. His early connection to America’s public land has driven him to find stories within.
Tristan has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Motion Picture Arts at Florida State University. Where he studied film production and worked on over 40 films in a variety of positions within three years. Through the College of Motion and Picture Arts, Tristan has experience in directing both documentaries and narrative films.
Starting with his debut documentary “The Castle Builder,” which was a nominee for The 41st College Television Awards in the Non-Fiction category. Tristan is also the recipient of the 2022 ASC Haskell Wexler Documentary Award presented by Shana Hagan ASC for his cinematography on the project. “The Castle Builder” went on to receive over 10 more nominations from festivals around the world.
Currently Tristan is based in Montana working as a freelance DP and camera operator. On his free time he likes to hike in the backcountry and rock climb.
