Tristan Owen is a Director and Cinematographer based in Southwest Colorado
Growing up next to 220, 803 acres of wilderness, Colorado native, Tristan Owen began his filmmaking journey by photographing the Colorado vistas. His early connection to America’s public land has driven him to find stories that help reconnect the public to the natural environment.
Tristan has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Motion Picture Arts at Florida State University. Where he studied film production and has worked on over 50 films in a variety of positions within three years. Through the College of Motion and Picture Arts, Tristan has experience in directing both documentaries and narrative films.
Starting with his debut documentary “The Castle Builder,” which was nominated for The 41st College Television Awards in the Non-Fiction category. Tristan has also been recognized for his cinematography through the 2022 ASC Haskell Wexler Documentary Award. “The Castle Builder” went on to receive over 10 more nominations from festivals around the US.
Following a tragic incident in the backcountry, Tristan was introduced to the incredible work done by backcountry search and rescue volunteers inspiring his current project “SAR”. SAR has gained national attention with 4 nominations only several months into the festival cycle.
Dedicated to the mission of protecting and preserving public land, Tristan continues his search to develop stories that share this common vision.
